Once recognised, prior learning can be used by students to gain credit or exemption from parts of a study programme they already have learned. It can also be used for personal and career development.

The Swedish National Agency for HVE is responsible for coordinating and supporting a national framework for recognition of prior learning. We collaborate with other public authorities to provide information and guidelines to support the industries and the education system, such as the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), the Swedish Council for Higher Education (Universitets- och högskolerådet) and the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket).
