Validation of prior learning
Validation of prior learning is about making skills and knowledge visible, regardless of how, where or when the learning took place.
Once validated and made visible, prior learning can be used by learners to gain credits or to be exempted from parts of a study programme or to gain access to further education and training.
The National Agency for Higher Vocational Education (Myndigheten för yrkeshögskolan – MYH) is responsible for coordinating and supporting the national arrangements for the validation of prior learning This includes following, supporting, and coordinating the development of validation in both education and working life by:
- knowledge sharing and providing comprehensive information about validation,
- contribute to the long-term capacity development of providers of validation, and
- compiling knowledge, analyse and evaluate the results of validation.
MYH is also tasked with promoting the use and development of validation within the forms of education the agency is responsible for, as well as supporting sector industry validation in Sweden.
The agency collaborates with other public agencies to provide information and guidelines to support the work with validation in both working life and education, such as the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), the Swedish Council for Higher Education (Universitets- och högskolerådet) and the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket).
